Everton have been linked with both Michael Keane and Chris Smalling this summer, with Ronald Koeman looking to make defensive additions.

According to the Daily Mirror, Everton are prioritising bringing in Michael Keane over Chris Smalling – but they may be making a mistake.
Everton have been tipped to be interested in both Burnley’s Keane and Manchester United’s Smalling this summer.
However, the Mirror believe that it is Keane who is Ronald Koeman’s first choice.

Keane has had an impressive campaign at Burnley, and it could be argued that he has the potential to grow into a superior player to Smalling.
But it is actually the Manchester United man who could offer far better value for money.
Burnley are believed to be asking for over £30 million for Keane (Telegraph), which is double what United are wanting for Smalling (Telegraph). And considering Smalling is the far more proven player, he looks a better option.

Smalling boasts experience of winning the Premier League, playing in the Champions League and representing his country.
Keane, meanwhile, has only one full season of playing football at the highest level under his belt – and although he has been excellent, he still has a lot to prove.
Keane is always considered to be a developing youngster, but he is only three years younger than Smalling.
And it may be that Everton have chosen the wrong option, in their search for a new centre-back.
