Everton have been linked with Manchester United defender Chris Smalling recently.
If Everton could complete a surprise transfer for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling it would be a wonderful addition for the Goodison Park club.
The Toffees have been linked with Smalling by the Daily Star, with the former Fulham man falling out of favour at Old Trafford recently.
The England international was arguably one of the Red Devil’s top performers over the early weeks of the campaign – and he has been very solid over the past year and a half.

Smalling has developed into a very reliable defender, but injury has meant that his United future is in doubt.
And if Everton were able to bring him to Merseyside, his arrival would strengthen their team considerably and also announce their intent.
Everton have an ageing back line, but Koeman could legitimately build his new look defence around Smalling.
The 27-year-old is just entering his prime, and should have at least another five years of top level football ahead of him.

Smalling also boasts a vast amount of experience, after representing United for so long, and that could be vital as Everton look to start challenging the top four.
Smalling knows what it takes to play in the Champions League, and he would help bring a winning mentality to Goodison Park immediately.
The January transfer window may have only just opened, but it is hard to see Everton being linked with a more ideal player for them across the whole month, and if Koeman is able to do a deal to bring Smalling to Goodison Park, it would be a brilliant piece of business.
