The Sheffield United manager is many West Brom fans’ choice for the role.
Ray Parlour has been asked whether Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder could be considered by West Bromwich Albion.
Wilder is currently low on the bookies’ list of potential Baggies appointments, after the dismissal of Tony Pulis on Monday.
But having led Northampton Town and Sheffield United to promotion in his previous two campaigns as a manager, many West Brom fans on Twitter are calling for the 50-year-old’s appointment.
Parlour, though, does not believe that Wilder would leave the Blades, who are third in the Championship, for the Premier League’s fourth-bottom side.
“Why does he want that?” the former Arsenal and England midfielder told Talksport’s Jim White show on Wednesday. “What he’s achieved at Sheffield United is superb.
“Sheffield United is a big, big club – I think he’s got every chance of getting them up again. Three back-to-back promotions would be amazing as a manager.”
Former Crystal Palace bosses Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce are the current bookies’ favourites for Pulis’ old post.
Pardew worked with West Brom technical director Nick Hammond at Reading, while Allardyce is a former Baggies player and coach.
Whoever lands the role will be Guochuan Lai’s first appointment since seizing control at the Hawthorns in 2016.
