Tony Adams asked Chelsea defender Reece James on Premier League Productions (22/08/21 at 6:40 pm) ‘why didn’t you join Arsenal’ after his performance in the London derby on Sunday.
The Highbury legend told the 21-year-old that ‘we could have done with you’ after Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at the Emirates.
Before the game, a lot of the talk was about the return of Romelu Lukaku and his second debut for the Blues.
The bulldozing Belgian didn’t disappoint because he opened the scoring inside 15 minutes by holding off Pablo Mari before making a darting run that resulted in the Arsenal defender falling flat on his face as he put the ball into the back of the net.
The surging James then doubled his side’s lead moments later and this is what Adams said to the right-back when he was talking to him after the game.
“Why didn’t you join the Arsenal,” said Adams. “We could have done with you today.
“Brilliant, pal. Excellent performance and a great goal.”

The problem for Arsenal is that what many were expecting to happen, happened and it’s no surprise that Arteta’s side put out such a performance.
Two games in, they are sitting in the relegation zone and there is no light in the tunnel that suggests they will put their first points on the board any time soon.
They awarded James nearly half of the Emirates pitch out on that right-hand side yesterday.
And if they do such a thing against Manchester City next time out in the Premier League then the scoreline might just right five or six, instead of a generous two.
