Some Arsenal fans on Twitter think their club has reached a new low.

Arsenal are rock bottom of the Premier League table after losing all three of their games so far.

Worse yet, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t even scored a goal in this competition yet, conceding nine.

This makes the Goal of the Month competition a tricky one, but the Gunners did hammer West Brom 6-0 in the EFL Cup last week.

All six of those are up for nomination but so too is a goal scored by Mana Iwabuchi, who plays for Arsenal’s ladies team.

It was a cracking goal by the Japanese attacker who, using her right foot, floated one into the top corner from a difficult angle.

But the fact that the club had to open the competition up to any senior team under the Arsenal banner is indicative of the problems in North London right now.

Here’s how some fans are reacting on Twitter:

Dropped standard

In fairness, there’s nothing wrong with a bit more diversity – particularly when the goal itself genuinely deserves highlighting, because it was a beauty.

But yes, there is a whiff of desperation about it from Arsenal and it sort of epitomises the major issue.

September should most definitely be a better month, but the fact that even one point – and one goal scored – would indicate progress on August is perhaps the damning indictment of how standards and expectations have dropped.
