Why did Origi not play against Liverpool? A number of Reds have asked this after the 27-year-old’s absence from the friendly against AC Milan.

The Belgium international joined AC Milan back in July after his contract expired at Anfield, following eight years of service on Merseyside.

Origi appeared in AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday, so many have wondered where the Belgian was as Jürgen Klopp and his side took on the Italian giants.

So, why did Origi not play against Liverpool? Let’s take a look…

Why did Origi not play against Liverpool?

Well, the AC Milan No.27 is simply injured, and was forced to watch on from the sidelines as his old teammates played against his current side.

Origi is said to have injured a muscle after the friendly against Arsenal – according to Football Italia.

It is the latest setback in what has been a difficult time for the Ostend-born striker at the San Siro so far.

Origi has only started four games in Serie A this season, and across all competitions, he has scored just one goal in 14 appearances.

The Liverpool icon has found it difficult to get ahead of Olivier Giroud in the starting XI, while Stefano Pioli usually prefers to use Junior Messias from the bench when in need of some added firepower.

Nevertheless, despite his woes in Milan, Origi remains well loved on Merseyside even after his departure, following a number of significant contributions in the red of Liverpool.

In total, he made 175 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 41 goals as he won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Origi specifically played a vital role in the UEFA Champions League success back in 2019, scoring twice against Barcelona in the semi-finals to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit and guide Liverpool to a 4-3 win on aggregate.

As you will know, Origi also scored against Tottenham in the final to make it 2-0 and wrap up the trophy.
