Derby County should look to utilise the loan market this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s DeAndre Yedlin and Manchester City’s Brandon Barker as ideal candidates.
Derby County should look to complete their excellent summer transfer business by securing the loan signings of Tottenham Hotspur’s DeAndre Yedlin and Mancester City’s Brandon Barker.
Paul Clement has wasted little time in his first transfer window as head coach strengthening the Derby squad ahead of the coming season. Alex Pearce, Scott Carson, Darren Bent, Tom Ince, Andreas Weimann and Chris Baird have all joined and the Rams look good for their tag as promotion favourites.
We take a look at two loan signings Clement could look to add to his squad ahead of next season in positions that could use an extra body or an extra bit of quality.
DeAndre Yedlin – Tottenham Hotspur
The United States international has already been linked with a loan move to the iPro Stadium this summer by the Daily Mail, and it could be a deal Derby look to pursue later in the window.
The 22-year-old has been pushed down the pecking order at Spurs, following the signing of Kieran Trippier, so he could look to gain regular first-team football out on loan.
Derby, who have improved the likes of Andre Wisdom, Patrick Bamford and Jordon Ibe during their loan stints in the East Midlands in recent years, look an ideal club as they don’t have a concrete first choice right-back.
Brandon Barker – Manchester City
The 18-year-old is currently causing a stir among City supporters following his performances during the club’s pre-season tour.
Barker, who is similar to last season’s loan star Ibe, could come in as a wide midfielder looking to win a place in the squad ahead of the likes of Andreas Weimann, Tom Ince and Johnny Russell.
Although he may not be first choice initially, the chance to train with one of the Championship’s promotion favourites should give him the perfect challenge and experience he needs at his age.
A star for the future, but one that could be put to use in a promotion push in the Championship right away.
