Despite the rumours linking Jermain Defoe with a move to another Premier League side, a switch to China could be just as viable.
As Jermain Defoe approaches the age of 35, the forward has some decisions to make. His unbelievable form for Sunderland this season has seen his stock rise to unbelievable heights, with many teams looking into the possibility of securing the veteran’s services.
The likes of West Ham United are believed to be among the frontrunners, but an outside bet could lie with a move to the Chinese Super League. After all, given the level of stars that have already made the jump it would hardly be surprising to see Defoe do the same.

When you look at Defoe’s history throughout his career, it’s not like he hasn’t made a similar move before. The former Spurs man spent just under a year in the MLS with Toronto FC back in 2014, proving that he has no reservations about moving to another part of the world, especially if it sees him become a high profile figure in the division.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe
Defoe is certainly moving towards the back end of his career and the question remains as to how long the Englishman has left in the game. Given the money being thrown around over in China, it doesn’t seem at all out of the realms of possibility that Defoe would pull the trigger and leave the Premier League behind.
Whilst his mind may be entirely focused on committing himself to his homeland, the likes of Carlos Tevez have proven that loyalties and promises can change dependent on how much money is on the table.
Sunderland will just be hoping no one from the biggest growing league in the world takes an interest in their star man.
