Above all other issues surrounding Wolverhampton Wanderers right now, Dave Edwards should be appointed as the new captain.
Uncertainty is something that Wolverhampton Wanderers are specialising in these days. Given the constant chopping and changing both on the pitch and behind the scenes, it seems logical to suggest that the club is in need of stability. In terms of the captain’s position, that change needs to be made in the form of appointing Dave Edwards for the role.
Danny Batth has held the position for a while now, and whilst he is a great leader so far this season things have not gone particularly smoothly. His performances have not been consistent and his leadership skills have been called into question by some. The defender still has a level of authority, but for this season to be a success there needs to be someone with that bit more experience at the helm.
Wolves’ Danny Batth
Step right up Dave Edwards. The midfielder has been an ever present at Molineux for years now, and he’s always been a strong fan favourite at the club. He constantly talks about his love for the area and the team, and a change of pace could bring with it some more positive results.
It also feels like Batth is experiencing a sense of pressure with the role, too. Where Edwards is concerned it would not just be a badge of gratitude for his service to the club, but instead a well-earned honour that he would take forward with him for the remainder of his career.
There’s still plenty of time left in Batth’s career for him to turn things round and re-claim the position, but for now it should be Dangerous Dave.
