Why are the animals missing from Premier League badges? Many have asked as Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Wolves and Brentford change their crests.
The Eagles and the Villans, along with the Bees and Wolves, have removed the animals associated with their respective crests from on Twitter, causing confusion amongst football fans on social media.
So, why have Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Wolves and Brentford done this? Let’s take a look…
Why are the animals missing from Premier League badges?
Well, it is because of World Wildlife Day.
As part of the World Wide Fund for Nature’s #WorldWithoutNature campaign, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Brentford have removed the animal from their crest to “drive awareness of nature and biodiversity loss by demonstrating the emptiness of a world without nature.”
Crystal Palace have removed their eagle, and Aston Villa have got rid of their lion.
In regards to Brentford’s badge, the bee is missing for today, as Wolves remove their wolf too.
As seen on Crystal Palace’s official website, there has been an average decline of 69% across global wildlife populations in less than 50 years, which is a truly astonishing statistic – something has to change.
The Premier League quartet have been joined by Championship sides Hull City – known as the Tigers – as well as West Brom and Huddersfield in the #WorldWithoutNature campaign.
Global brands such as Duolingo, Old Mout Cider, Gorilla Glue, Task Rabbit, Gymshark and Brewdog are also taking part.

At this moment in time, Tottenham are yet to remove the cockerel from their badge, while Brighton have also left the seagull on their Twitter display picture.
Newcastle have also left the two seahorses on their badge as Leicester leave the fox on theirs as well – get involved!
So, if you’re scrolling through Twitter today and have to do a double take at some Premier League badges, fear not – your eyesight isn’t waning.
