Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers had wanted to sign Dominic Solanke from Celtic.
According to The Sun, Dominic Solanke has turned down an opportunity to join Celtic – in favour of a move to Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers had targeted bringing in Solanke in the summer, with his contract expiring at Chelsea.
However, the 19-year-old has opted to move to Liverpool – as they were prepared to offer him more money than Celtic.
Solace’s decision could be an error, as he only needs to look at the progress of Moussa Dembele to realise how productive a switch to Parkhead could have been.
Dembele had some of Europe’s biggest clubs chasing him last summer, but the French striker opted to move to Celtic.
He has now become the Bhoys’ main front man, and his reputation has been increased considerably.
Dembele has caught the attention of almost every title chasing Premier League side, and is regarded as the best talent in Scotland.
Dembele has gone from a young hopeful, to a striker worth over £30 million, and there is no reason why Solanke’s development path could not have been similarly.
However, at Liverpool, there has to be a question of how much game time he will get.
Solanke is unquestionably a major talent for his age, but he is likely to only be utilised in the cups at Anfield.
The England youth international could well struggle to break into Liverpool’s team ahead of the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.
At Celtic, though, that competition would be well reduced, and there would be a clear pathway into Rodgers’ side’s first team.
Of course, the temptation to move to Liverpool is understandable – but if Solanke is left sitting on the bench regularly at Anfield, he may well regret turning down the chance to move to Celtic.
