Real Madrid have been linked with a €30m swoop for Chelsea midfielder Ramires – and the Blues should sell him.
Chelsea ended Jose Mourinho’s first season back at Stamford Bridge without a trophy, but fans will be hopeful that ‘The Special One’ will be able to bring in more talent this summer in order to reclaim the Premier League trophy. Atletico Madrid trio Filipe Luis, Tiago and Diego Costa look set for moves to West London, but in order to keep signing players, Chelsea must also let some go.
David Luiz is poised to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, whilst the likes of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are expected to join Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Samuel Eto’o in leaving Chelsea this summer – yet there could be one more surprise departure too.
Midfielder Ramires is set to feature for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup, but is now reportedly a target for Real Madrid – who are managed by ex-Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, the manager who brought the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in 2010.
With Xabi Alonso ageing, Sami Khedira coming back from a serious injury and Asier Illarramendi struggling to make an impact since his move from Real Sociedad last summer, Madrid could certainly be in the market for a central midfielder to partner with former Tottenham star Luka Modric – and the Blues would be foolish to turn down a whopping €30m for Ramires.
The Brazilian is athletic and hard working, but Chelsea’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas suggests that Mourinho is now looking to add a more technically gifted midfield player to partner Nemanja Matic in front of the back four. Ramires has very limited technical ability whether through his passing or his control, and having contributed just three goals and three assists this season, the Brazilian simply doesn’t offer enough to Mourinho’s side outside of his hard work.
For €30m, Chelsea can effectively sign Fabregas in Ramires’ place – which would upgrade the Blues midfield exponentially.
