Why Chelsea should NOT be talking to PSG’s Ezequiel Lavezzi

Chelsea are reportedly taking to the representatives of PSG front man Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Sky Italia claims that Chelsea have met with the agents of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi as they look to add firepower to their attack ahead of next season.

Jose Mourinho is thought to be deadly keen on signing at least two decent attacking options with Diego Costa heavily linked with the club and Lavezzi could well be the second option.

The 28-year-old forward played well in the Champions League game against Chelsea earlier this week and we’ve decided to take a look at how he shapes up to Chelsea’s main attacking players in terms of domestic football this season.

Lavezzi has seven goals in Ligue One football, but he has played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, making just 13 starts this season. However, only Eden Hazard and Samuel Eto’o have scored more goals.

He’s yet to get off the mark domestically in terms of assists, which puts him behind all of the current attacking options for Chelsea, the same options to have been criticised by Jose Mourinho and several groups of the club’s support base.

In terms of shots per game, he wouldn’t be a drastic improvement on what the Blues already have in terms of the attempts department. He has a lower shots per game ratio than Hazard, Eto’o and Torres at 1.7 efforts per game.

Dribbles

He’s also way off the pace in terms of dribbles with an average of 0.7 per Ligue One game. That suggests he wouldn’t change anything in the current Chelsea attack in terms of picking up the ball and driving at the opposition defence.

One area the stats suggest Lavezzi would be a good signing for the Chelsea attack would be in terms of how he protects the ball, getting dispossessed only 1.1 times per game on average, far lower than any of Chelsea’s main attacking threats.
