Rafael Van Der Vaart has recently hinted that he would be keen to join Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

Rafael Van Der Vaart may have suggested that he is interested in a move to Celtic, with his comments to the Sunday Post, but there is no way that the Bhoys should contemplate making a move for the Dutchman.

Since Brendan Rodgers has taken charge, Celtic have generally attempted to bring in young players, who can still develop.

The addition of Kolo Toure broke this policy, but he was an emergency signing, required to give Rodgers’ side cover that they desperately needed at the back.

With Van Der Vaart it is an entirely different situation. Celtic are well stocked in attacking midfield, and the Dutch international simply isn’t needed.

While signing a player of Van Der Vaart’s stature would unquestionably be an exciting move, it is hard to see what he would offer Celtic at this moment in time.

The attacking midfielder has struggled over the past two years, and now seems to be reaching the twilight of his career.

Van Der Vaart first failed to break into Real Betis’ team, and this season, he has scored just once in 12 matches in Denmark for FC Midtjylland.

With Celtic already having the league wrapped up, Rodgers has already admitted that his business in January is being completed with one eye on next season, at which point Van Der Vaart will turn 34.

It simply looks to be a transfer that does not make sense, and despite Van Der Vaart’s interest, Celtic should steer well clear of the veteran and look elsewhere for their next signing.
