Fabio Borini is linked with a £6m move to Celtic but is the Sunderland star actually worth it?

Reports in the Chronicle suggest that a £6m deal to take Fabio Borini from Sunderland to Celtic is imminent, but would it be a good move for the Scottish champions?

For starters, while on the face of it a reunion of Borini and manager Brendan Rodgers – for whom the forward played for at Swansea City and Liverpool – seems simple, but their relationship is seriously strained.

The Italian was quoted by the Daily Express in March as saying: “The move from Roma to Liverpool was very negative.

“I expected more consideration from Brendan Rodgers.”

Secondly, Borini has just been involved in a very poor campaign for the Black Cats, one which saw them relegated from the Premier League after finishing bottom with 24 points.

While the likes of Jermain Defoe and Jordan Pickford did come out of a miserable season with some credit, the 26-year-old did not, scoring two goals in 24 league appearances.

In fact it has been some time since Borini really did perform at a high level, with his impressive stats early in his career for Swansea and Roma seemingly contributing to the fact that he is still in demand.

Rather than signing a player on a reputation that in truth is no longer warranted, Celtic should be concentrating their attention elsewhere in the transfer market this summer.
