Brendan Rodgers has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 24th April, that Celtic are targeting two quality additions this summer.

Celtic do not want to make wholesale changes to their squad during the upcoming transfer window.

However, Rodgers does want to make some alterations to his starting line-up for next season.

He said: “We don’t need many but if we can bring in a couple of players of quality, we want to make a mark on Europe next season,” Rodgers said.

“That would be progress for us and just keep the momentum going with the club.”

Rodgers’ comments suggest that Celtic will be targeting quality over quantity next season, and he may not have to look very far to see who should be his first target.

Patrick Roberts has developed into an important player for Celtic during his time on loan from Manchester City.

Celtic's Patrick Roberts comes on as a substitute

Roberts joined Celtic in January 2016, and his performances have caught the eye.

Indeed, Roberts’ importance to Celtic was highlighted two weekends’ ago, when the young winger was handed a start against Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The 20-year-old did not disappoint with his display, as he continuously looked a threat to Rangers’ backline.

And Rodgers should do everything he can to bring Roberts back to Celtic in the summer.

The former Fulham man still has room to improve, and has previously not ruled out moving to Glasgow on a permanent basis.

As a result, the transfer looks to no brainer – and Rodgers should put Roberts at the top of his transfer wishlist this summer.
