Why Cardiff should take an ‘all or nothing’ approach at Newcastle

Cardiff City make the long trip North to face Newcastle United this weekend as they look to bounce back from defeat last time out.

Neil Warnock suffered his first defeat as Cardiff City manager last time out with Wigan Athletic stealing a late win at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Bluebirds will be desperate to bounce back this weekend but they couldn’t have hand-picked a more difficult opponent with league-leaders Newcastle United standing in their way.

The Magpies have won every one of their last six and they are not fearing anyone in the Championship, and why should they? They have one of the most talented squads to ever grace the division, plus a Champions League-winning manager.

However, that shouldn’t phase Cardiff City – Despite their poor positioning in the table, they do have the tactical knowhow of Neil Warnock, who has come up against giants like Newcastle plenty of times in his career.

Cardiff aren’t expected to take anything home from St James’ Park, having not won there in the league since 1963 so they have nothing to lose.

In every one of Newcastle’s losses this season, they have conceded first and that’s the key to taking them down.

If Cardiff are brave enough to go for the jugular away from home against a team like Newcastle, then they may just be rewarded handsomely.

It’ll be no easy task and teams who have tried to be bold against Benitez’s men have often been severely punished, but with nothing to lose, Cardiff shouldn’t be going there with fear.

There’s no point turning up and trying to defend out a draw, the magpies have far too much attacking talent for that to work so an all-or-nothing approach, although risky, may be worth a shot.

There’s no doubt this is the toughest test in Cardiff City’s season but if they are brave and can get something from the North East, then they can take real confidence into the international break, and indeed the rest of the season.
