Bryson DeChambeau has really struggled at the majors this season, but we can never count him out of contending at the very biggest events.

DeChambeau winning two US Opens was certainly no fluke.

The 32-year-old American dominated the field at Winged Foot in 2020 and got the better of Rory McIlroy by a single shot at Pinehurst No.2 in 2024.

Bryson DeChambeau‘s game shouldn’t be suited to US Open venues, on paper at least.

However, Shinnecock Hills could well play right into his hands next week.

Bryson DeChambeau has already been tipped to do well at the US Open, by none other than one of his biggest critics, Brandel Chamblee.

And there is very good reason for fans of DeChambeau to feel confident heading into the third major of the season.

Bryson DeChambeau has a great chance to win the US Open at Shinnecock

We all know that DeChambeau possesses the skillset required to win the US Open.

However, his form at The Masters and The PGA Championship this season has been cause for real concern.

His iron play has been extremely poor, especially his distance and spin control.

DeChambeau’s key strength – his driving – has been nowhere near good enough in the majors this season either.

He has hit just 57.55% of fairways on LIV Golf this season – 7% less than he hit in 2025.

That is why he will be so delighted that the USGA have made such a big change at Shinnecock Hills for the US Open this year.

DeChambeau should be heading into the US Open next week full of confidence, in spite of his poor showings at the first two majors of the year.

Bryson DeChambeau will be licking his chops ahead of the US Open

The fairways at Shinnecock Hills were already wide enough back in 2018. In fact, they were wider than the average PGA Tour course at 42 yards.

That is extremely unusual for a US Open, but, as we all know, the defence of the golf course comes in the form of the undulating greens that are shaped like upturned saucers.

However, this year the fairways at Shinnecock are even wider for the US Open.

The average width of the fairways for the tournament this year will be 48 yards. That is a serious amount of landing area.

Bryson DeChambeau is the longest hitter in the game. He cruises around a 190 mph ball speed, but is more than capable of cranking that up to 200 mph whenever he chooses to do so.

The LIV Golf star will be given free rein to let loose at Shinnecock Hills next week, and if he dials in his irons, he could well be a hard man to beat.
