Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers celebrates scoring their first goal
Leeds United suffered another defeat in the Championship yesterday. Following on from the 1-0 loss at Reading the West Yorkshire side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Brentford.
One of the stars of the show for Brentford was Romaine Sawyers. He scored the opening goal and put in a brilliant performance throughout the 90 minutes, as his manager Dean Smith explained to the BBC:
“If Romaine Sawyers keeps performing like that his detractors will get fewer and fewer. His first 70 minutes on Saturday were good but he was excellent for the 90 tonight.”
For two Leeds players, his brilliant performance would have been extra hard to take.
Sawyers, 25, came through the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion. He was with the club from 2004 until 2013. During his time with the Baggies he played in the youth teams with both Leeds United’s top striker Chris Wood and summer signing Kemar Roofe.

Wood and Sawyers actually left the club in the same summer as both were not looking likely to get regular first-team football at The Hawthorns.
On this occasion Sawyers got the opportunity to get one over on his former Baggies team-mates, who are hoping to take Leeds back to the Premier League.
Leeds’ former Baggies pair will hope to get the last laugh and head back to the top-flight.
