The current Leeds United boss would be mad to leave Elland Road for The City Ground, but that’s what one unbelievable rumour said Forest were investigating on Friday.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Normally you have to wait until the summer before the silly rumours start flying in, but then came along Friday’s report in The Mirror – Nottingham Forest are said to be eyeing up Leeds United boss Garry Monk to take charge at The City Ground.
Quite simply, this won’t happen. Not only has Monk done a tremendous job at Leeds, who have seemingly solved their off field problems, but he could be a Premier League manager again next season following his dismissal from Swansea City last season.
The Whites are currently sat in fourth position, and it seems that – whatever happens in the play-offs – Monk will be allowed to build on this season at Leeds, and be given free rein to do as he pleases.
As has been well documented at Nottingham Forest, this simply won’t be the case while Fawaz Al Hasawi remains the club’s owner, given the total lack of structure and direction at The City Ground.
Former Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier
You only have to look at who’s turned the Forest job down since Philippe Montanier was relieved of his duties in January, to realise no manager worth his salt wants it.
Carlos Carvalhal, Oscar Garcia, Gary Rowett, Paul Heckingbottom and Nigel Clough are all rumoured to have said no, and with good reason too. If approached, Monk would just be the latest name to add to an ever-growing list.
With Monk nearing the end of his 12-month rolling contract, likely the origin of such unlikely rumours, it has to be expected that he will either extend his deal at Elland Road or secure a switch to another Premier League club.
