Tottenham have reportedly made an offer to sign Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay ahead of the summer window. It might be, that Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang help Spurs win in their pursuit of Depay.
Depay, 28, joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Lyon in the summer. It comes after a stunning stint at Lyon in which Depay was the French club’s captain, and scored a huge 76 goals in 178 games – as well as 55 assists.
That is, after a poor Manchester United spell – and an ACL injury while at Lyon. At Barcelona, signed by Ronald Koeman, he has done well without shining – scoring 10 goals in 27 games in all competitions for Xavi’s men.
Back in December, Depay suffered a hamstring injury – and then an achilles injury on his return. It saw him miss eight La Liga matches, and on his return, found himself on the bench – Aubameyang replacing him.
Arsenal and Aubameyang surely help Tottenham in Depay pursuit…
Arsenal allowed Aubameyang to leave the club on a free transfer to join Barcelona, and his form has been superb since – scoring six goals in nine. It has seen Depay drop out of the side – as has the signing of Ferran Torres.
Barcelona journalist Gerard Romero reported that Spurs have made an offer to sign Depay on Twitch. Romero is well-connected at Barcelona and is seen as one of the strongest sources linked to the Nou Camp side.
Given that Depay is no longer first choice, largely thanks to Arsenal selling Aubameyang and his form at Barca, surely the Gunners and the Gabon skipper hands Tottenham a boost in their pursuit of Depay?
