Middlesbrough forward Jordan Rhodes is reportedly interesting Aston Villa ahead of the January transfer window.
The Daily Star have suggested that Aston Villa will make an offer for Middlesbrough forward Jordan Rhodes in January, but it is hard to make a case for Steve Bruce’s side actually needing the Scottish international.
Rhodes has struggled to break into Middlesbrough’s team this season, and Aitor Karanka has suggested that he could be open to offers for the 26-year-old.
There is little doubting Rhodes’ quality at Championship level, but there is a question of where he would fit at Villa.
Bruce already has arguably the best strike force in the second tier at his disposal, with a host of quality attacking players in his squad.
Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack have a track record of scoring goals at Championship level, while Jordan Ayew is capable of playing at a higher level.
Villa also have the likes of Rudy Gestede and Gabriel Agbonlahor in reserve, and the pair, who aren’t without their critics at Villa Park, are still major weapons at Championship level.
If Rhodes was to join it would just cause more complications for Bruce, as he looks to find a way to keep all of his strikers satisfied.
Villa should, therefore, prioritise strengthening other areas in their squad in January, even if a striker of Rhodes’ quality is on the market.
