Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Gremio attacker Everton Soares.
Tottenham Hotspur need a right back in January, so fans may be surprised to hear them being linked with a new winger for the upcoming transfer window.
Sky Sports claim that scout Steve Hitchen recently went to Brazil to watch the Copa Libertadores semi-final clash with Flamengo and Gremio, and came away impressed by a couple of players.
One of those was Gremio attacker Everton Soares, who it 16 goals last season and has racked up 12 goals and six assists this term.
The 23-year-old was the joint-top scorer at Copa America over the summer, and Hitchen is believed to putting his name forward as a target for Spurs in 2020.
However, a warning may come from bitter rivals Arsenal, given that they were keen bring Everton to the Emirates Stadium over the summer before signing Nicolas Pepe instead.
Globo Esporte in Brazil claimed that Gremio wanted €45mllion (£38.8milion) in order to sell their prized asset, and there are further costs involved in signing the left winger.
Gremio only own 50% of Everton, with businessman Gilmar Veloz owning 30%, Celso Rigo 10% and former club Fortaleza 10%, with Veloz the big problem.
It’s claimed that Arsenal asked Veloz what kind of money he would want to sell his stake in Everton, and his response caused ‘astonishment’ at Arsenal, which meant they called off the move and went for Pepe.
That would suggest that Veloz is demanding huge money for Everton, and it’s hard to envisage Daniel Levy relishing such a complicated deal which would involve so many parties.
Spurs may still press ahead with a move for Everton, but it certainly seems like the kind of deal that could become frustrating, and if Arsenal backed away from the situation, Tottenham may well feel a similar way unless Veloz suddenly drops his demands.
