The three Tottenham Hotspur youngsters have not travelled to the United states for pre-season preparations.
When Tottenham Hotspur announced their travelling party for their trip to the USA, there were some notable absentees including Moussa Sissoko and injured trio Danny Rose, Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son. However Spurs fans would be forgiven for questioning the omission of three of the club’s brightest prospects.
Kazaiah Sterling, Shayon Harrison and Marcus Edwards were all missing, and while the latter has only recently returned from international duty with England’s under-19s, he would have benefited from joining up with his senior teammates as he continues to wait for his much anticipated breakthrough.
It would be no surprise if Harrison headed back out on loan next season, and if a deal is in the offing it would make sense for him to remain in England rather than travel thousands of miles only to return a few days later.
So that leaves Sterling, whose absence is arguably the most questionable given his progress and his inclusion in Tottenham’s post-season friendly in Hong Kong.
Sterling could have thrived this summer, especially with Tottenham in need of additional goal threat with Son unavailable and the club still searching for that much needed new striker.
Alas it was not to be, but chances to stake a claim for a first-team shot are few and far between and, in the case of both Sterling and Edwards, you can bet they would have preferred to be on the plane than left at home.
Both are still expected to ultimately break into the first-team, but it may be another year or two before they can hope for anything more than a brief cup cameo.
