Euro 2020 has seen much reminiscing about Euro 96 – mainly Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne’s goal against Scotland at Wembley – but a bizarre clip from Sky Sports reviewing Gazza’s miss v Germany in the semi-final has left Gers fans (and many, many more) scratching their heads.
The midfielder’s flick over Colin Hendry’s head before firing low beyond Rangers teammate Andy Goram from 25 years ago has been shown more than any goal scored so far at Euro 2020 but Sky seem to have taken it a step too far.
In the absence of the rights to show the actual clip of Gascoigne’s lunging miss against the Germans later in the competition, Sky Sports had a computer simulation (that looks straight out of 1996 itself) showing the Rangers legend’s miss from various angles.
Despite being a full quarter of a century ago, there’s been a real fixation on Euro 96 and England’s glorious failure in reaching the semi-finals.
However, the computer-generated clip of the miss by the Rangers legend has taken it to a whole new level of obsessed.
Rangers fans on Twitter have been left stunned at the weird clip from Sky, with the shoddy graphics a particular source of amusement.
