Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield this evening in the biggest game of the Premier League season so far.
Victory would take Jurgen Klopp’s side back to the summit of the table and, more significantly, give them a four-point cushion over the Sky Blues, the reigning Premier League champions.
Even after seven matches, Liverpool wouldn’t sniff at that advantage over Pep Guardiola’s side irrespective of how early in the season it is.
If the Reds are to win, it’ll be done in a slightly different home kit.
Why Liverpool are wearing a different shirt v Manchester City
The hosts will, of course, sport their usual red against Manchester City.
But Klopp’s troops will have a different logo and name on the front and centre of their shirt for charity reasons.
Standard Chartered are still mentioned but the word ‘Futuremakers’ will take pride of place, along with a different logo.
A statement on Liverpool’s website read: “This season’s logo swap – which aims to raise awareness and funds for the Futuremakers initiative – will take place during the Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.”
What is Futuremakers?
According to the same statement, Futuremakers is “the bank’s global initiative that aims to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people across its markets”.
Liverpool and Standard Chartered did the same for a game last season and wound up raising $84,000 USD.
Klopp’s side won last season’s logo-swap clash 3-0 against Leicester City and no doubt fans of the Merseyside club will be hoping – perhaps praying – for the same result against Manchester City this evening.
