Why are Leeds wearing black armbands? Many have taken to Google to ask this after spotting them being worn against Manchester City today.
Jesse Marsch welcomes Pep Guardiola to Elland Road as both the Whites and the Citizens get their respective Premier League campaigns back underway, albeit with a slight adaption to their kits.
At the time of writing, Leeds find themselves 15th in the Premier League, so a surprise three points against the reigning champions of England would be very welcome indeed.
So, why are Leeds wearing black armbands? Let’s take a look…
Why are Leeds wearing black armbands?
Well, the Leeds players are wearing black armbands in tribute to England 1966 World Cup winner George Cohen.
Cohen sadly passed away at the age of 83 on Friday 23rd December, and the football family have been paying their respects since Premier League action resumed after the World Cup came to a conclusion.

The 1966 World Cup winner spent his entire career playing at right-back for Fulham, and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport.
Cohen was the uncle of Rugby Union World Cup winner Ben Cohen.
Cohen was also awarded an MBE in 2000 for his part in England’s first and only World Cup success.
The Fulham legend also remains the only footballer to win the World Cup while playing for the Cottagers.
In total, Cohen made 459 appearances for the west Londoners, scoring six goals while also providing two assists.
In total, the England hero won 37 caps for England.
There will also be a minute silence to honour Cohen, as seen across other Premier League stadiums this week such as Old Trafford, Selhurst Park and the Emirates Stadium.
Everyone at HITC wishes the Cohen family all the best, and hope George rests in peace.
