Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the defender but they do not need him.

According to a recent report from the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Krasnodar centre-back Ragnur Sigurdsson this summer. The problem is the centre of defence is the one area Spurs have absolutely no need to strengthen.
With Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld forming a superb partnership last season, many worried what would happen when one or the other was unavailable for a sustained period of time.

An injury to the former saw that fear realised, only for Kevin Wimmer to step in seamlessly and prove just what a canny investment he was.
On top of that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has Eric Dier, a player whose position in the centre of the field will now be challenged following the arrival of Victor Wanyama, while there is even a fifth-choice option in the form of brilliant teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Sigurdsson has excelled for Iceland at this summer’s European Championships, but at 30 he will not want to move to a club where he is anything other than first choice.
That would certainly not be the case at White Hart Lane, at least not unless there was a huge downturn in form from Tottenham’s current defensive options, so this is one rumour that can be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt.
