Many of the world’s biggest names flock to watch the tennis, understandably.

After all, it is a sport that boasts global appeal, arguably exhibiting the peak of sporting athleticism.

However, that is not the only reason that celebrities are attracted to the sport, with plenty of prestige also attached to it. This is especially notable at the game’s biggest events like Wimbledon or the US Open.

Once a game reserved only for the elites, there is far more accessibility nowadays, making it one of the most popular sports in the world.

Even stars like Rihanna and Will Ferrell find time to fit it into their busy schedules.

Will Ferrell names the best celebrity tennis player

Ironically, it was the latter of the duo who, back in 2018, actually sought to rank all the celebrities who he knew played tennis.

Rihanna would only come second on his list, with the American offering a typically tongue-in-cheek answer whilst sitting with Jim Courier.

Speaking in the Australian Open media room, as if he were at a press conference, he proudly declared Taylor Swift as the best celebrity tennis player.

He claimed: “Oddly enough, Taylor Swift. She’s incredible. I’m just making things up here. Rihanna is really good too.”

Rihanna’s relationship with tennis

Ironically, given Ferrell was clearly joking, Rihanna does have a long history of being associated with tennis.

After all, she was just 17 when she performed at the US Open, and has gone on to inspire some of the sport’s biggest names like Serena Williams and Coco Gauff.

These stars have all shared messages with one another, with the singer having also been pictured with Rafael Nadal.

Even if Ferrell’s claim was an unserious one, Rihanna’s relationship with tennis is clearly a strong one. Perhaps there was some credence to his argument.
