March was a highly dramatic month for several reasons, as the pressure really starts to kick in ahead of the final few games of the Premier League season.

One of the most important players in any side is the goalkeeper and there were some standout performances domestically last month, with several players stepping up and providing a solid last line of defence when needed.

We’ve taken a look at five key statistical areas for goalkeepers to examine the top performers across different categories last month.

Saves

David Marshall is appearing on this list with regularity, which will be alarming for Cardiff. The Bluebirds are currently in the bottom three and need their ‘keeper to carry on performing to help them get out of trouble.

Punches

It’s easy to see why Real Madrid are so interested in signing Joe Hart from Manchester City. He was the best goalkeeper last month in terms of taking the initiative, punching and easing the pressure over his defence. High

Claims

Hart appears again for high claims but it’s Stoke’s Asmir Begovic who takes top spot in this category, as no one else was more effective at coming to claim the ball. His side are well placed to consolidate in the top half over the rest of the season.

Accurate Goal Kicks

Begovic appears again but West Ham’s Adrian was the most accurate player in terms of accurate goal kicks. It’s significant considering West Ham are predominantly a long ball team, with big attacking players.

Penalties Saved

Foster was the only goalkeeper to save a spot kick last month which came against Hull City. He’s really pushing for a World Cup place this summer and Pepe Mel has already revealed his belief that he should be the current number one for the national side.
