Heading into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Carlos Alcaraz was looking to win a third successive Men’s Singles title.

The Spaniard had entered the tournament in great form having won one of the greatest matches in tennis history against Jannik Sinner in the French Open final, and having captured a second successive Queen’s Club Championships title.

Alcaraz almost fulfilled his dream, reaching the final in SW19. However, he was stopped by Jannik Sinner, who won his first Wimbledon title.

Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, was unable to equal Roger Federer’s Wimbledon record of eight title wins in 2025.

Virat Kohli said he wanted Novak Djokovic to win the 2025 Wimbledon Championships ahead of Carlos Alcaraz

Virat Kohli is one of the greatest cricket players in history, winning the ODI Player of the Year award four times and leading India to their first Test series win in Australia.

The Indian star is also a good friend of Novak Djokovic’s.

Ahead of Djokovic’s Wimbledon semi-final against Jannik Sinner, Kohli expressed his desire to witness Djokovic win a 25th Grand Slam title.

“I have been in touch with Novak Djokovic for a while now,” Kohli told the New Indian Express.

“We have exchanged messages, and he’s been very gracious and kind. I’d love to see Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the final — and I hope Novak wins this one. That would be a tremendous achievement at this stage of his career.

“He’s definitely in the conversation as one of the greatest of all time — if not the greatest — with the highest number of Grand Slam titles. He truly deserves it for all the hard work he’s put in. I really hope he plays Carlos in the final and wins.”

Unfortunately for Kohli, Djokovic was defeated in straight sets by Sinner.

Sinner and Alcaraz have dominated tennis over the past two years, winning all eight Grand Slam titles combined. In 2025, Alcaraz and Sinner contested three of the four major finals.

However, Djokovic remains a threat at major events, as demonstrated by his appearance in the semi-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments this year.

Novak Djokovic’s best chance of winning a Grand Slam in 2026

Of all the Grand Slam tournaments, the Australian Open represents Novak Djokovic’s best chance at capturing that elusive 25th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic has been dominant in Australia throughout his career – winning 10 titles – and will be hungry for further success in Melbourne.

As has been the case for the past two years, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will be the Serb’s main challengers.

Djokovic will likely need to avoid Sinner if he wants to win the title: the Italian has dominated their matchup in recent memory.

However, the Serb defeated Alcaraz in the 2025 Australian Open quarter-finals, and would be hopeful of a similar result should they meet at the tournament again in 2026.
