Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed both joined LIV Golf in 2022, stepping away from the PGA Tour in the process.

That decision has made it much harder for them to earn spots on Team USA for future Ryder Cups.

But despite that, DeChambeau is currently sitting inside the top six on the U.S. Ryder Cup points list, while Reed’s recent win at LIV Dallas has sparked calls for his inclusion ahead of the showdown with Europe at Bethpage Black.

Reed is affectionately known as ‘Captain America’ due to his tenacious and combative performances for the United States during Ryder Cups of the past.

However, Keegan Bradley has been warned that picking Reed would add a level of toxicity to the team-room that really isn’t needed.

Both players have been in good form lately, but DeChambeau has had the slight edge over Reed when you look at his performances on LIV and in the majors.

It would be surprising if DeChambeau doesn’t make the U.S. team for Bethpage. On the other hand, leaving Reed out could mean missing a valuable asset. His Ryder Cup record stands at seven wins, three losses, and two halves – a clear sign of how much he thrives in team settings.

If you ask who European players would rather face – someone like Maverick McNealy, Brian Harman, Andrew Novak or Reed – the answer seems pretty clear considering what Reed has done before.
