Chelsea midfielder Jorginho very nearly scored the 1,000th own goal in Premier League history against Arsenal tonight.
Arsenal took the lead when the Chelsea midfielder got his backpass to Kepa Arrizabalaga horribly wrong.
The ball looked to be rolling into an empty net and although the Blues goalkeeper somehow managed to swipe it off the line, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on hand to cut back for Emile Smith Rowe to tap home.
The Spaniard denied Jorginho the unwanted distinction of scoring the 1,000th own goal in the history of the Premier League.
But who scored the first own goal?
Well, that honour goes to former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley.
He scored an OG in a 4-1 defeat by Kenny Dalglish-managed Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in September of 1992.
Who has the most own goals in Premier League history?
That would be former Manchester City stalwart Richard Dunne, who reached double figures and managed 10 [Premier League].
Not far behind is Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher who, along Phil Jagielka and Martin Skrtel, managed seven.
It remains to be seen who’ll net the 1,000th but, thanks to the Chelsea goalkeeper, it won’t be Jorginho.
