The £59.7 million summer signing has absolutely shone since moving to Old Trafford.

Rarely has a club been praised for buying their way to form.

Real Madrid seem to do it every year, sure. But the neutrals of this world are far more welcoming of an Atletico Madrid, or a Borussia Dortmund that don’t have unlimited resources at their disposal.

When it comes to the odd signing, though, money is no object when it comes to quality or fan adoration.

Indeed, one such example is Angel Di Maria. The Argentine, a Real Madrid player until this season, completed a £59.7 million move to Manchester United in the summer. And what’s happened since has got everyone applauding. Who says you can’t buy class?

As Opta stats show, in the four Premier League appearances the 26-year-old has made since moving to Old Trafford, Di Maria has topped the United charts in no less than five key areas.

Despite the presence of some genuinely world-class strikers, no one has scored more goals than Di Maria’s three. Nor has anyone registered as many assists.

Where the Argentine is most convincing, however, is with his chance creation. On 12 more occasions, Di Maria has created a goalscoring opportunity for a team-mate only for them not to finish it off. His tally of 15 is a remarkable nine more than any other player during his brief tenure at United so far.

But Di Maria is not done there. The 26-year-old has also won more dribbles than any of his team-mates and also completed far more final-third passes. And let’s not forget the fact that Di Maria won Match of the Day‘s Goal of the Month competition, too…

Three players have completed more accurate passes than the Argentine, while Marcos Rojo has taken more touches. But, even then, those who have surpassed him in those areas have been summer signings. For all the flaws in Man United’s current squad, it seems those they did bring in represent money well spent.
