Speaking on Vibe With Five, Anton Ferdinand has been discussing the work Eddie Howe is doing at Newcastle United and Joelinton’s new lease of life.

The Brazilian has gone from being arguably one of the worst strikers in the Premier League to being one of Newcastle’s most effective midfielders, and Ferdinand believes that Howe’s decision to drop Joelinton deeper was a masterstroke.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand spoke about the work Howe has done with Joelinton.

“I thought it was going to be very hard, but from the outside looking in it looks like he’s done it in his sleep, he’s consolidated the backline and he’s got them playing. He’s playing players in their rightful position. Joelinton is playing a deeper role, who saw that coming? He identified that ASAP, within the first two weeks, and he’s thrived off of it, and it shows the level of intelligence that Eddie Howe has and his attention to detail.”

Eddie Howe had plenty of money to spend in January, but his best piece of work so far at Newcastle didn’t cost a single player.

Joelinton’s shift into the midfield was an inspired tactical move from Howe, and to be honest, it’s hard to imagine how the Brazilian was ever a centre-forward under Steve Bruce.

Looking back, a shift into the middle of the park seemed obvious, but it took the appointment of Howe for this shift to come to fruition.

Joelinton has been fantastic, and Howe deserves an immense amount of credit for transforming his fortunes.
