Chelsea have the funds to rival just about any big spenders and this summer they may break the bank to find a replacement for Diego Costa.

Being able to buy the best strikers in the world comes with some responsibility, but when they are seen as past their sell by date, teams like Chelsea don’t hesitate to get rid. Now the clock may be ticking on Diego Costa’s Stamford Bridge stay, but Kensington residents could soon find that Bundesliga star Robert Lewandowski is preparing to come to SW6, according to the Metro.

Chelsea need to make a statement
Signing Lewandowski would be a statement not only that Chelsea are going to do everything they can to retain their title, but it would strengthen the Premier League’s position over many of the other European leagues who crave the big names.

The Polish striker is more than ready to come to England, if as the Independent suggests, talks with Real Madrid are going nowhere, which has already alerted Manchester United.

However, to play a leading role as the main striker under Antonio Conte at Chelsea seems a perfect match, as the Champions only need a slight revision to their domestic conquering team to keep them bubbling and ready to take on Europe.

Would FC Bayen Munich sell to Chelsea?
If they had to sell, the German champions may wish for Lewandowski go to an English side rather than a Spanish side, with La Liga sides knocking them out of the Champions League in recent seasons – but they have him under contract to 2021 and could quickly stamp out transfer talk that didn’t talk very big money. Still, it may be difficult to keep a striker who wants to challenge himself somewhere else.

Moreover, The Daily Star has picked up on a reference from Lewandowski’s agent, Maik Barthel, who FoxSports‘ had quoted as saying about the striker: “Robert is disappointed. He has not received the support he needs from the team to be a top scorer.”

It’s easy to visualise Lewandowski playing for Chelsea, who will be after a striker that could bring them another Champions League title. Lewandowski has a fantastic record in the competition with eight goals and one assist last time round, as FC Bayern Munich went out at the quarter-final stage.

Lewandowski is 29 now and may not have too many more mega transfer moves, but Chelsea would be in very good shape indeed, if they can attract the Polish star to the Premier League.
