Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United stars all feature.
Chelsea went to the top of the table, Arsenal were humiliated at Liverpool and Manchester United dropping more points at home are just a few of the key stories to come from the weekend’s Premier League action.
There were also superb performances from Crystal Palace, Norwich City and West Ham United as teams lower down the table all picked up vital points. Here’s our Premier League team of the week.
GK – Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace)
Outstanding as Palace bagged a vital win against West Brom. Didn’t really make any errors and took a lot of pressure off of his defence.
RB – Joan Flanagan (Liverpool)
The young right-back had a great game in the face of an Arsenal midfield that likes to stroke the ball around. He didn’t look out of place and made it difficult for the Gunners to play down his side.
CB – Martin Skrtel (Liverpool)
It was Skrtel’s quick fire brace which gave Liverpool a lead against Arsenal, which they never gave up. He was solid at either end of the pitch.
CB – James Tomkins (West Ham United)
Tomkins did the basics of defending very well against Aston Villa. He struggled against the physical presence of Christian Benteke but he got all of the major decisions right.
LB – Martin Olsson (Norwich City)
Olsson was solid defensively against Manchester City and he also provided a good attacking outlet for his side to use on the counter attack.
RM – Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Sterling was superb against Arsenal, using his pace, movement and skill in possession to put players onto the back foot. He showed great awareness and great composure throughout.
CM – Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
Coutinho is another Liverpool player who shone in that game. He got on the ball and was a real driving force for Liverpool, completely outshining some very good Arsenal midfield men.
CM – Kevin Nolan (West Ham United)
Nolan was outstanding against Aston Villa. He helped the side out defensively when they were under pressure but got into good, smart positions in an attacking sense which allowed him to affect the game.
LM – Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Chelsea’s Belgian winger was simply too good for Newcastle. He put goals on top of his good work over recent weeks and his first Premier League hat-trick will only improve his game and confidence over the next couple of weeks.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham Hotspur)
The Spurs striker looks really hungry at the moment in that attack. He bagged another goal against Everton and looks on top of the world.
ST – Luis Suarez (Liverpool)
Suarez was unplayable at times against Arsenal. He didn’t get onto the score sheet but his movement gave the Arsenal defence all sorts of problems.
