Sam Allardyce has claimed that he has been ‘underwhelmed’ by Liverpool’s summer transfer business, as he told Sky Sports minutes after the window slammed shut.
Ibrahima Konate was the only man to walk through Liverpool’s doors, with the club, instead, opting to hand new contracts to several first-team players.
Last season, Jurgen Klopp had to endure an injury-hit campaign that rocked the club from top to bottom and caused all kinds of problems.
Many felt that the Reds would invest into their squad in a significant way this summer, not in the sense of replacing players, but adding depth and lifting pressure off certain key stars.
But given their injury problems last season, Allardyce questioned ‘who is to say they won’t have that injury crisis again?’, as he delivered an honest verdict on their transfer business.
“I am a bit underwhelmed by Liverpool, not much activity there,” said Allardyce. “Wijnaldum going and only one man coming in.
“I know that they are basing a lot on their injured players and the quality of their injured players coming back.
“But who is to say they won’t have that injury crisis again somewhere in the season? And they obviously show that they don’t cope with it that well, so that was a bit underwhelming.”

From the Premier League’s top six of last season, Manchester United brought back someone some bloke called Cristiano Ronaldo.
Chelsea paid nearly £100 million for Romelu Lukaku, who was in action at Anfield over the weekend, whilst Manchester City broke the British transfer record for Jack Grealish.
Then West Ham and Leicester probably had one of the windows of the summer, as they kept their key players and added quality individuals such as Boubakary Soumare, Patson Daka, Kurt Zouma and Alex Král.
But the key for Liverpool is that this isn’t a surprise to their fans and Klopp has shown throughout his tenure that he can deal with such situations.
