Norwich City have signed Josh Martin following his release from Arsenal.

Norwich City Manager Daniel Farke looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Norwich City and Sheffield United at Carrow Road on January 20, 2018 in Norwich, England.

Norwich City have added to their academy ranks with the signing of Josh Martin from Premier League side Arsenal after he impressed during a couple of trials, the club’s official site confirmed.

The Canaries have given plenty of opportunities to young players this season, with Max Aarons, Ben Godrey, Jamal Lewis and Todd Cantwell all enjoying a taste of first-team action.

But who is Norwich’s new 17-year-old recruit and what can he look to offer the the Championship promotion challengers in the future? Here are five facts about the youngster:

– Originally from Luton, Martin will hope to follow in the footsteps of Luton-born duo Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis who have both become regulars for Daniel Farke’s side this season.

– Martin is predominantly an attacking midfielder but has been featuring on the left for Norwich during their recent Premier League U18 games against Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion.

– Looking to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo, Martin would have been a baby at the time the Portuguese superstar was making his Sporting debut and in early primary school during Ronaldo’s first Premier League title win at Manchester United.

“I’m a left-winger or an attacking midfielder, I like to run at players and get shots off. I try to emulate [Cristiano] Ronaldo, and I can bring goals and assists to the team. Work rate, creativity and a better end product in the final third is what I want to bring to the team,” Martin told the club’s official website.

– Martin joined Arsenal’s academy at just eight years old but opted to look elsewhere after struggling to make the grade as a first-team scholar.

– He is the second academy player Norwich have signed from Arsenal this season, with Dan Barden also trading the Premier League club for more opportunities at Carrow Road.
