A Mohamed Salah miss for Liverpool was probably the only negative of this afternoon.
The Reds absolutely obliterated Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield today in what was a record-breaking Premier League victory for the hosts.
Bizarrely, Salah, arguably Liverpool’s best player, didn’t get on the scoresheet.
However, it wasn’t for the lack of trying.
The Egypt international missed a stone-cold sitter in each half of this hammering.
The miss in the second half was particularly poor because it was on his stronger left foot, whereas the opportunity in the first half was on his weaker one.
Here’s what Pat Nevin said about Salah’s difficulties today.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live in his co-commentator role: “He’s through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, on his left foot and he’s lashed it over the bar! Who is that? Is that Mo Salah’s brother down there?! He’ll actually be mildly embarrassed if it went 7 or 8-0 and he didn’t get on the scoresheet. It would be absolutely stunning if that happened.”

Despite the gaffes, Salah actually had an excellent performance and the same BBC pundit was purring over him at the half-time break.
The former Chelsea and Roma hitman, a £36 million signing in 2017, has been one of the world’s finest goalscorers over the past five years, making it all the more stunning that he couldn’t find the net in such an emphatic victory.
Nevertheless, he is, above all else, a team player and although he’ll be secretly gutted to not score today, a first victory of the season for Liverpool is the important factor here.
