Manchester United haven’t been active in the first-team market this January, but they have made a notable addition at youth level.

Michael Carrick’s side didn’t bring in any new faces during the window, though fans seem to appreciate Ineos taking a measured approach. It could set up a more aggressive summer when resources are less stretched.

Ineos’ arrival has already influenced how the club approaches recruitment. There’s been a noticeable shift towards focusing on younger prospects and building out the academy.

One of those moves was recently confirmed by HarwickSports, with United signing 19-year-old goalkeeper Solomon Honor from Blackburn Rovers.

What we know about Man United signing Solomon Honor

The club has used most of the January window to loan out academy players, but bringing in Honor adds depth to their goalkeeper ranks.

Honor is set to link up with Travis Binnion’s Under-21s squad.

He came through Manchester City’s academy, featuring for the Under-18s before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2021.

With Blackburn, he made the step from Under-18s to Under-21s and picked up experience through two loan spells.

He spent a short spell at Clitheroe in 2024 before returning and finishing the 2024/25 season on loan at Atherton Collieries. That initial one-month deal was extended through the campaign.

He’ll be joining his brother Zico, who’s already part of United’s setup.

Solomon Honor adds depth to United’s growing list of young goalkeepers

Getting a first-team chance at United is no small feat, especially with the competition already in place.

Senne Lammens, who arrived from Royal Antwerp over the summer, has impressed early on. At 23, he looks like he could hold down the starting job for years to come.

Meanwhile, Radek Vitek, currently out on loan at Bristol City, is also 22 and having a strong spell. He’ll likely be pushing for a first-team role when he returns.

In the academy setup, Elyh Harrison, William Murdock and Dermot Mee have all featured this season. Honor will need to work his way up and earn his opportunities among them.
