Mamiko Tanaka is a Japanese former professional basketball player who played as a forward for Fujitsu Red Wave in Japan’s Women’s Japan Basketball League.
She was born on December 11, 1996, played college basketball at Waseda University and spent four seasons with Fujitsu from 2019 to 2023 before retiring.
Tanaka also represented Japan at youth level and was part of the under-24 team that won silver at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei.
Ohtani announced his marriage on February 29, 2024, initially describing his wife only as a Japanese woman. Tanaka was later identified publicly, and she appeared with him during the Dodgers’ 2024 season-opening trip to Seoul.
Reports have said they met in Japan around 2020 or 2021, but the couple have not given a detailed public account of their first meeting or early dates.
