Coventry City could lose another highly-rated starlet with Marcelo Bielsa’s Championship leaders eyeing Sam McCallum.
Leeds United’s aim to put together something of a youth-level dream team continues with Sam McCallum the latest Football League wonderkid who has caught the eye of the West Yorkshire giants.
That is according to the Coventry Telegraph anyway, who claim that Leeds, who have signed players from Carlisle and Morecambe already in the Victor Orta era, are sending scouts to watch a highy-rated left-back who has featured five times in League One already this season.
Given that Leeds have suffered from a lack of depth in that position throughout Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club, mostly thanks to Barry Douglas’s ongoing injury problems, it should be no real surprise that McCallum has registered on their radar.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph in late 2018, McCallum admitted that he prides himself on his pace, a useful attribute for any modern full-back to have. Though, interestingly, the teenager adds that he sees himself in midfield – and that will go down well at Leeds, given Bielsa’s passion for players with the ability to play in a variety of positions.
“For the most part there was some decent football played down the left-hand side and I thought Sam McCallum was magnificent when he came on,” the always gushing Sky Blues boss Mark Robins said last year about a player who had spent time in Jamie Vardy’s footballing academy.
“I was delighted with his contribution. I thought he was outstanding, absolutely outstanding, and then it started to pick up on the left where we got a couple of crosses in.”
Robins is the man who has given McCallum his big break – but Bielsa could be the coach who helps this precocious 19-year-old become a star.
