Cardiff City moved to snap up striker Etien Velikonja last month. What can we tell you about him?
Here are five facts about the £1.7 million striker…
1) Velikonja is a 23-year-old Slovenian international, and with the country having a negotiable qualification group featuring Norway and Switzerland, he will hope to feature at World Cup 2014.
2) He signed from Slovenian side Maribor, where he spent two seasons. His goal ratio in Slovenian football reads at one every three games.
3) He can bring a winner’s attitude to Cardiff’s promotion challenge, Velikonja is a two-time league champion in Slovenia as well as a domestic cup winner in the country.
4) He bounced back from a cruciate knee ligament suffered in 2009, and has recovered into fine health. He has almost 70 professional career goals to his name to date.
5) He featured in the Europa League last season, when his Maribor side took on Birmingham City. He has even played in the Champions League this season qualifying rounds with his previous club, and has given up the challenge to sign with Cardiff.
