Rangers could offer trialist Matt Polster a deal at Ibrox.
Rangers are expected to be busy in the January transfer window, and boss Steven Gerrard has decided to look at two trialists ahead of next month.
American duo Matt Polster and Andrew Gutman have both arrived in Glasgow to train with Rangers, and could potentially sign for the club in January, as noted by STV.
Polster, 25, is a particularly interesting trialist as he is more experienced than Gutman, and has already played against Rangers boss Gerrard in Major League Soccer.
Rangers fans may not be too familiar with Polster though, and here are five things to know about him ahead of a potential Gers deal.
1. Polster is predominantly a right back, but is also capable of playing in holding midfield – and that versatility could be appealing to Gerrard.
2. Polster has made a total of 90 appearances for Chicago Fire, scoring just three goals during his time with the MLS outfit.
3. Earlier this year, Polster earned his first United States cap in the 0-0 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina back in January, but he has yet to build on his one cap.
4. Polster suffered a major knee injury earlier this year and underwent surgery in May, but Chicago Fire now have been keen to keep him, with his contract expiring at the end of the year.
5. Polster’s social media activity is very interesting with regards to Gers boss Gerrard. He posted a photo with Gerrard on Instagram back in 2016, calling him his ‘idol’, and his Facebook cover photo – as seen below – is a photo of Gerrard celebrating at Liverpool, suggesting that playing under him would be a dream for the American ace.
