If reports are to be believed, there’s a chance Cristiano Ronaldo will join Manchester City this summer, but what squad number would he wear? And who is Manchester City’s number 7?

CR7 is a brand. The number seven is linked with Ronaldo in the same way the number 23 is linked with Michael Jordan, but unfortunately, the seven shirt is taken at City.

Who is Manchester City’s number seven?

Right now, Manchester City’s number 7 is Raheem Sterling.

Sterling has worn the number seven ever since he joined City back in 2015, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll give it up without a fight.

Could Sterling change number?

Of course, with a player like Ronaldo potentially coming in, Sterling could be asked to graciously step aside and give up his jersey.

So, could he change number? Of course he could, and if he did, there’s another option staring him in the face.

Sterling wore the number 31 at Liverpool, and he could revert back to that number if Ronaldo comes in.

What shirt numbers could Ronaldo wear?

Some players are incredibly possessive over their shirt numbers, so if Sterling refuses to give up the seven, what else could Ronaldo wear?

Well, the number nine isn’t available, which is what Ronaldo wore when he first arrived at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo has previously worn 17 at international level, but with Kevin De Bruyne currently holding that number, it’s hard to see anyone usurping City’s talisman.

The 28 shirt is one that would make a lot of sense – his first squad number back at Sporting, so we could see CR28 rather than CR7 in the future.
