Henri Kumwenda become the latest Leeds United youngster to debut for the Under-23s, appearing as a substitute in Tuesday’s defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
But who is Kumwenda? Here are five facts about the Whites talent…
How old is he and what position does he play in?
Kumwenda is 17 and a striker – although he appeared to be playing wide right against Wednesday.
Where’s he from?
Malawi, southeastern Africa. But he moved to England as a child and signed for Leeds as an 11 year old. He is now said to reside in Collingham, near Wetherby.
Why’s he already playing for Leeds’ U23s?
It’s perhaps something to do with his recent scoring record – six already in 2019, including a hat-trick against Blackpool.
What’s his contract situation?
Kumwenda signed two-year scholarship forms with Leeds in April 2018, and a pro deal could be in the offing before long.
Anything else?
Yes. It is not only on the football pitch that Kumwenda has shown great promise, but in the classroom too. He achieved four grade 9 and two grade 8 GCSE’s last year, as well as three A*s and one A.
