Tottenham Hotspur take on Ludogorets tonight, and there has been a surprise on Jose Mourinho’s bench.
Spurs have named teenager Dane Scarlett as a substitute tonight, meaning he could be in line for a first-team debut.
Few expected Scarlett to be involved, and seeing his name on the bench have left some wondering just who he is – so here’s some information.
Scarlett is just 16 years of age, and doesn’t even turn 17 until March, meaning he is very much in the early stages of his career.
He has one cap for England’s Under-16’s, and scored twice in that game as he excelled against Denmark in August 2019.
Primarily a striker, Scarlett has been in sensational form of late, smashing 10 goals and three assists in eight Under-18 Premier League games.

On Saturday, Scarlett scored four times in a 7-0 thrashing of Southampton, and that seems to have been enough to attract Mourinho’s attention.
Mourinho did use Scarlett in pre-season, giving him a chance against League One side Ipswich Town, but tonight could be an even bigger accomplishment for the teenager.
Having seen Harry Kane become a star from the youth ranks, Scarlett will now hope to follow in his footsteps – and it could all start tonight.
