Brighton & Hove Albion have completed a deadline day transfer for Josh Robertson from Sunderland, so here is everything you need to know on the Seagulls’ new ace.
The youngster has agreed to leave the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee and signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at the Amex Stadium. Robertson will link up with Brighton’s Under-21 side after predominantly only representing Sunderland with the Under-18 side this term.
Robertson enjoyed his sole Under-21 appearance for the Black Cats in September through a cameo against Aston Villa in the Premier League 2. He appeared for 15 minutes in a 3-2 win away to the Villans. But Robertson’s creativity in Sunderland’s U18 side impressed Brighton.

Brighton secure the signing of Josh Robertson from Sunderland
Roberston now joins a Brighton U21 side that sits seventh in the PL2 table after 12 games so far this season. Sunderland’s U21 side have also claimed 20 points but are in fifth place after 11 games. The Black Cats’ junior team have a superior goal difference to the Seagulls’ squad.
But who is the new kid on the block down on the south coast? Here is everything you need to know about Robertson now that Brighton have secured his transfer from Sunderland…
Who is Josh Robertson?
New Brighton & Hove Albion signing Josh Robertson is a product of Sunderland’s academy. He joined the Black Cats’ youth set-up at the age of nine and rose through their ranks until hitting the fringes of their Under-21s. Now, he will further hone his trade with the Seagulls.
Where and when was Josh Robertson born?
Josh Robertson was born in England on October 3, 2005 but he is also eligible to represent Cyprus. The teenager holds dual citizenship but is yet to play for either country at any level.

What position does Josh Robertson play?
Sunderland trained Josh Robertson to play in the position of an attacking midfielder through his rise in their academy system. But the young playmaker is also capable of playing in more advanced areas, on the flanks or in central and deep-lying positions with a licence to roam.
How good is Josh Robertson?
Brighton agreed the deadline day transfer from Sunderland of Josh Robertson as he showed his creative potential on Wearside. The midfield prospect is a technically strong talent who is comfortable driving with the ball. He is also capable of pulling the strings and scoring goals.
Seagulls U21 head coach Shannon Ruth is now excited to see what Robison will offer on the south coast. The transfer presents Robertson with a chance to step up to the Under-21 level on a consistent basis. Sunderland had often consigned the playmaker to just their U18 side.
“We’re delighted to welcome Josh to the club and are looking forward to working with him,” Ruth told Brighton’s official website. “He’s had a really good education with Sunderland, which was rewarded with his Premier League 2 debut earlier this season.
“He’s demonstrated his ability to play in a variety of attacking roles, while also showing his goalscoring threat. We believe he will fit in well with our style of play, which will also allow him to show his strengths.”
