Steven Gerrard is set to reunite with Andy Firth at Rangers, according to the Sun.

Goalkeeper Firth is said to have undergone a medical at Rangers on Thusday, having ‘jumped at the chance’ to join the Ibrox side from Barrow AFC.

But what should Gers fans know about the 22-year-old?

HITC Sport has the lowdown…

5) Firth has only been at Barrow since the summer, and began the campaign as first choice at Holker Street. However, he lost his place to Joel Dixon in October, and has yet to win it back.

4) Gerrard should need little convincing of Firth’s ability, mind, having worked with him at Liverpool until the end of last season. The shot-stopper joined the Reds at the age of 11 and spent as many years on the books at Anfield, where he played alongside the Rangers pair, Ryan Kent and Jordan Rossiter, and was coached by the Gers’ Michael Beale.

3) Firth appears to have a soft spot for either Gerrard or Rangers, having posted the following tweet after the Gers’ Old Firm win at Ibrox last month…

2) Firth also gained first-team experience on loan to Witton Albion and Chester FC, but has never played above the English National League.

1) Despite having spent his entire career to date on the west of the Pennines, Firth is in fact a Yorkshireman by birth (from Ripon, to be precise). Rangers men, James Tavernier and Graeme Murty, also hail from ‘God’s Own Country’.
